Yen

The Yen is the official currency of Japan. The Japanese currency was created in November 1870 to replace the ryo.
The Latinate graphic symbol of the yen is (¥). In Japanese, “yen” is said “en” (pronounced [é-n]).
The Yen entered in a floating exchange rate system in 1973 and nowadays it is the third most dealt on the exchange market just after the dollar and the euro.
The Japanese currency is controlled by the Bank of Japan. The Bank of Japan or BoJ issues the yen coins and banknotes and keeps the monetary policy of the country.
